Minimony Wedding Ceremony at Bell Rock in Sedona, Arizona

The year 2020 brought many changes in the wedding industry. There has been no other year during my career, that I’ve had to pivot to meet the needs of our new “COVID normal”. One such change has become the minimony trend. Just like it sounds, it derives from the words “mini” and “ceremony” we get minimony. This is different from an elopement since the couple is not sneaking away to get married. Instead, it’s a small, intimate ceremony, usually consisting of 10 or fewer guests, with an informal cake cutting or dinner afterward. Then, a year or so later, the couple will have their larger reception to celebrate with all the loved ones that could not be invited to the minimony due to COVID restrictions and concerns.

I had the pleasure of assisting with a few Arizona minimonies over 2020. One such was for Jessica and Trevor who decided to marry at the base of Bell Rock in Sedona, Arizona in October. The couple kept it small with just a few attendants and their officiant. But since there were still elements that needed an Arizona day-of coordinator, they brought me on to assist. I was able to help by picking up the flowers, cake, and act as DJ in playing the processional music. In addition, the couple wanted to live stream their ceremony so at-home guests could view it. I was able to kick-off the stream and man the camera so those loved ones could enjoy it. Playing that role really fulfilled the inner cinematographer in me…LOL

Overall, it was a beautiful fall day in Sedona. The couple rented a house so they could get ready there in the morning and relax with their four friends, who served and bridesmaids and groomsmen. We all drove to Bell Rock together since parking is scarce at the trailhead site. The couple’s photographer resides in Sedona and had known of the perfect area at the base of Bell Rock where the ceremony could be held. We had about a 10-minute hike to get to the location. Since it was a popular, wedding day, 10/10/20, we passed many couples having the same idea. After the short ceremony, the couple took some portraits before heading into downtown Sedona for dinner with their friends.
